On or about, Thursday, October 7, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily shift lanes along eastbound Randolph Road as well as restrict access to Judson Road and Grandview Avenue from eastbound Randolph Road. The restrictions are necessary for crews to continue the $3.2 million utility relocation project at the intersection of MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and Randolph Road in Wheaton/Glenmont.
Weather permitting, crews are scheduled to shift all lanes of traffic along eastbound Randolph Road between Denley Road and MD 97. This shift will require crews to temporarily restrict right turns from eastbound Randolph Road to Judson Road and Grandview Avenue. In addition, access to Judson Road and Grandview Avenue between Randolph Road and Newton Street will be closed to through traffic; local traffic and emergency equipment will be permitted. The temporary closures and detours will be in place through the end of November. Motorists should be prepared for minor delays.
Crews working on the project are moving nearly 6,800 feet of utilities owned by area companies, primarily around and through the Glenmont area neighborhoods bordering Georgia Avenue, Randolph Road, Judson Road and Lindell Street. The utility relocation is being done in preparation for construction of a new interchange at MD 97 and Randolph Road.
The utility relocation project began November 2009 and should be complete late-fall 2010, weather permitting.
